Courses spring 2011
A couple of courses will be arranged within the Centre's Researcher School program during 2011. Firstly, a course on Advanced Silicon Solar Cells is organized in weeks 6, 10 and 15. Secondly, a course on ab initio modelling of solar cells will be given in weeks 8 and 11.
The course on Advanced Silicon Solar Cells will be given at NTNU, at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The course is divided in 5 modules: (i) Repetition about the physics of solar cells, (ii) Silicon production: from quartz to solar grade, (iii) Solidification and sawing processes: from solar grade to wafers, (iv) Defects and characterization techniques, and (v) From wafers to solar cells.
When: February 7th-10th, March 7th-10th and April 11th-12th 2011 (weeks 6, 10 and 15)
Where: Department of Materials Science and Engineering,
NTNU, Alfred Getz vei 2B, Trondheim
Target group: PhD students with background in materials science and/or physics
Credits: 7.5
The course on ab initio modelling of solar cells will be given at UiO, at the Department of Chemistry. Among the topics that will be covered are: i) Density Functional Theory
ii) LMTO, LAPW and PAW methods iii) Electronic band structure & DOS related properties iv) Simulation of Defects v) Optical Property studies and vi) Simulation of Thinfilms & Nanophases. A very important part of the course is the hands-on training with ab initio software that will cover simulations of absorbers, electrodes, TCOs
and antireflection coating materials.
When: February 21st-25th and March 14th-18th (weeks 8 and 11)
Where: Department of Chemistry, UiO, Sem Sælands v 26, Oslo
Target group: PhD students with background in materials science and/or physics
Credits: 5
